Allow firmware to be downgraded
Hardware vendors sometimes want to recommend that users downgrade their firmware. This particularly happens through customer support. Right now, GNOME doesn't offer a way to do this.
Another similar feature that we might want to consider is allowing users to unlock UEFI firmware updates. This is a BIOS setting that, in some cases, can be changed from the OS.
Downgrading would likely work by allowing certain firmware versions to be blacklisted.
The initial question I think we have to answer is where we want to expose this functionality. Possibilities here:
- A Settings panel
- A standalone firmware tool, possibly launchable from Settings
- A more generic "Hardware Information" tool, loosely modelled on Windows' system information
