Swipe between content
Hello gnome design team,
I am the author of NewsFlash, a Gnome Circle application. It's a feed reader with a classical 3-pane layout that makes use of
libhandy to make the interface shrink down to phone size.
Each of the 3 main columns of the app is inside a
HdyLeaflet so on mobile the navigation is hierarchical like:
Sidebar -> article list -> article view
As you may know a more convenient way to go up a level with
HdyLeaflet than clicking a button is to swipe back.
Now to the problem: A contributor brought up: when viewing an article a way to swipe to the next/prev article would be nice. I myself are also in favor of gestures instead of buttons on a phone whenever it makes sense (I miss my N9). This however clashes with the swipe gesture to go back to the article list.
And since I'm sure I'm not the only one to run into this dilemma at some point I would like to ask for help to find a solution that works the same way across all gnome apps which could implement a similar interaction (Mail/Geary comes to mind).
My initial impulse was to differentiate between swipes starting within the content area and swipes from the edge of the display in some way. But as far as I know the concept of edge-swipes is currently not used in gnome apps.
Thank you for all helpful input :)
