Proposal for GNOME Sponsorship of OSCA FEST 2023 and Hackfest in Africa on June 15th -17th
Dear Board of Directors,
I am writing to propose that GNOME sponsor the Open Source Festival in Africa (https://festival.oscafrica.org/), the gathering of open source communities in Africa. As some of you may recall, this was the conference where I spoke about GNOME to a larger audience in Africa for the first time in 2020 (https://blog.oscafrica.org/the-chronicles-of-open-source-festival-2020).
Building on this experience, I propose that we sponsor the event by having a pull-up banner and an exhibition space and leverage this opportunity to organize a hackfest involving developers from Africa. Our participation will demonstrate our commitment to diversity and inclusion, which are core values of the GNOME project and part of our commitment for this board term. Additionally, this sponsorship could raise the profile of GNOME both with attendees and other organizational sponsors/partners, as well as attract more partnerships and potential sponsors in the future.
I have attached a link to the sponsorship deck for more information: https://festival.oscafrica.org/sponsorship-deck-2023.pdf. I am currently inquiring with the event organizers to request a room for a 2-hour hackfest. Once the board approves this proposal, I will share those details with Rossana.
Furthermore, I am willing to lead the effort and organize the African team.
Thank you for your consideration.
Best regards,
Regina
