Lock file left after successful commit

Description
I committed gimp-2.10/po-libgimp via web UI, including cherry-pick to master, which succeeded. After it had succeeded, I went ahead to also commit po-plug-ins update, and got:
"[Errno 128] b"fatal: Unable to create '/usr/local/www/gnomeweb/scratchdir/git/gimp/.git/index.lock': File exists.\n\nIf no other git process is currently running, this probably means a\ngit process crashed in this repository earlier. Make sure no other git\nprocess is running and remove the file manually to continue.\n"
That got resolved on i18n by av, but it's now not certain what will happen for the next person.
Extra information: I already got the problem once earlier, after committing a main GIMP UI translation, but that did result in an actual error (without going into details). av also removed the lock file after that before I was able to commit the libgimp translation. However, there was no error after the libgimp commit and the lock file arrived again, so I'm just including this as an extra detail.
