Make UI reduced smaller
I'm sort of back at helping the Catalan translation team translate GNOME, and out of curiosity, given that we still keep numbers for as old as 3.18, I checked how many languages have been labeled as supported by GNOME (i.e. get over the 80% of translations) across releases.
Turns out that it has been stable around 38-40 languages.
According to pocount we have (in total): 45851 strings which have 201759 words on them. To get the 80% of it (doing maths) that would be 36680 strings or 161407 words.
To lower the effort, we have these reduced po files that basically strip the schemas, as they hardly make it to the regular apps UI.
Still that is a lot, sorry I'm too lazy/busy to get the numbers on how much that gets reduced.
Given that we are already splitting the modules into sections (accessibility, apps, backends, core, core libraries, development tools, extra libraries, games and utils), IMHO we should use that to make the numbers for the user interface (reduced) at listing at https://l10n.gnome.org/releases/gnome-3-38/
i.e. just take into account apps + core + utils = 13795 + 2618 + 4499 = 21539 strings or 98804 words. This is around 50% of the strings to have a desktop almost fully translated (and we are counting the schemas, which would make it even less).
With 2469 + 1896 strings (games and accessibility) you would still be below the 30k strings to get an even fuller translated desktop without having to ever touch gtk+ (+4k strings), e-d-s (1.4k), glib (1k) glade+builder (+3k) and weather locations (+4k).
