In long output a character mid stream is replaced with the cursor
- VTE: 0.54.2
- GNOME Terminal: 3.30.2
- Tilix: 1.8.5
- OS: Arch Linux
After running some command showing long output and scrolling through it I noticed a block character had replaced a letter in the output. As I can reproduce it reliably I created a test file sample.txt (each line begins with the line number and the rest is fixed text) for further testing. Showing what it looks like if I do a cat sample.txt
on either GNOME Terminal or Tilix:
Running tac sample.txt
(showing the file in reverse) shows the block character in the same column on the same line from the start (line 3641, which is also the 359th line in that output). Edit: to be clear, this happens with other commands showing long output as well. Like locate system
.
The block character shows in the same column as the caret on my command prompt. Typing some spaces on the command prompt and scrolling back up, the block character also moves.
Whether I scroll by dragging the scrollbar or using the keyboard, the issue is the same.
I can reproduce this on both VTE using terminals noted above so I'm guessing this may be a VTE issue? I couldn't reproduce it on the non-VTE terminal I have here (Alacritty).
