inconsistent display of some of (double width ?) characters

Description
At the moment, I've got only one example, but there might be more, once the reason is found.
The sequence 'Ⅲ雷' (the first character matters, the second might be even a Latin letter) is displayed incorrectly by vte, with the second char overlapping the right most part of the first one, at least as long as the cursor is not on the text. However, if it's placed on 'Ⅲ', that glyph is drawn correctly (highlited), but the highlighted glyph is drawn replacing a part of the following glyph.
It doesn't seem to be a font problem, at least pango-view doesn't seem to have this problem (though that might be not a proper test).
