Documentation on debugging and configuration procedure
I use simple-scan
to connect to my WiFi printer/scanner.
Unfortunately, the discovery of the device on the network was very unreliable.
Through research, I found out that simple-scan
is using sane
, and in this case, sane-airscan
to connect to devices.
Then, I discovered that using airscan-discover
first to manually detect devices and then adding them to /etc/sane.d/airscan.conf
completely resolves the issues I had. With discovery=disable
, simple-scan
connects to my printer immediately!
simple-scan
is a very intuitive tool that doesn't need much user documentation.
However, I think it would be useful if we added a section somewhere in this repository that helps users understand what is going on in the background (sane
, sane-airscan
,...) and how to fix certain (e.g., discoverability) issues.
