Original description:
Users have requested that Shotwell offer a way to share an entire event with a web service. Currently the event has to be selected, Edit -> Select All, and then Publish. The request is to select an event and publish it at once with a single click. Or, multiple events can be selected and each published all at once. In any case, each event should map to an album on the server (or whatever container makes sense). This feature might be made available through an Event Directory page.
In addition, the server's container name should default to the event name or comment (#5284).
Old description:
I am using 0.14.0. What I should be able to do is:
- Select an event and go File/Publish or right-click/Publish. Shotwell should create a new album with the same name as the event, the same main photo as the event's Key Photo, and the album description taken from the event Comment.
- Each photo should be uploaded with Shotwell edits (e.g.) applied.
- Each photo should have its description set to the shotwell photo comment.
Shotwell fails on all 3 counts. Instead, what happens is:
- I cannot upload an entire event. File/Publish doesn't exist when I select an event, and when I go into the event overview without selecting any photos, File/Publish is greyed out. I have to manually select all photos from an event, which obviously loses the metadata about the overall event (name, key photo, comment).
- The photos are upload in their original rotation, not the shotwell edited rotation.
- Shotwell also ignores the photo comment.

@Infinity Zero:
You mentioned three issues. This one is definitely a bug and has been ticketed as #6684:
- Each photo should be uploaded with Shotwell edits (e.g.) applied.
This issue here:
- Each photo should have its description set to the shotwell photo comment.
Is known about and ticketed as #6305.
Your third request:
- Select an event and go File/Publish or
right-click/Publish. Shotwell should create a
new album with the same name as the event, the
same main photo as the event's Key Photo, and
the album description taken from the event
Comment.
is something that we've thought a lot about here at Yorba. There's a bit of a semantic mismatch in uploading the contents of an "event" to an "album." This is becuase "events" and "albums" are two different things: events are automatically grouped by time and albums are grouped by explicit user action, using whatever grouping criteria the user desires. At one point, we had planned for Shotwell to support albums (indeed, this was ticket #81 (closed)) but we decided against it. That said, you're not the first person who's showed an interest in mapping Shotwell "events" to "albums" in web publishing services. Thanks for bringing this up; we'll re-open this discussion!

- Each photo should have its description set to the shotwell photo comment.
Just an addendum to my previous comment: if you have the "Strip, tags, titles, and other metadata..." checkbox checked for privacy reasons, comments will not be uploaded even when #6305 is implemented.

Thanks for the quick and informative response!
I can see your point about events/albums, but I'm not sure if there is as much of a distinction as you guys think. For example, right now I am able to drag photos arbitrarily between events, and Shotwell will rename them to e.g. May 3
- 9" and "May 6 - 10" - so the point about events being grouped by time seems only to apply during the initial import of the photos. I can't think of any other arguments right now, but I'm glad that you guys are willing to revisit this idea.
For the "strip metadata" point, could it be split into two options, photo metadata vs user-added metadata? For me at least, camera/photo metadata is not explicitly added by the user, so personally I'd like to get rid of it "just to be safe", whereas shotwell titles/comments I did explicitly add, so I can and want to publish them. (I can file this as a new bug if you prefer; it doesn't seem to be directly within the scope of #6305).

Definitely open a new ticket for this if it's a feature you'd like to see.

In a way, this is a superset of #5284

Good catch. As the original user's other two issues have been ticketed separately, I'm closing this one as a duplicate of #5284.

Well, not exactly. The user also asks for a way to share an event. To do that, one needs to open the event, select all photos and then upload those. It would be nice if one could upload events per se (and if one could upload more events at once, each creating an album bearing its name). I guess somethng along these lines is what the user originally asked about (and which I would like too). Currently, I am in a process of uploading 20-30 old albums to Facebook and it is a lot of manual work. It would have been nice if I could upload them in one go.
