A user on the mailing list suggested it would be nice if Shotwell could convert RAW photos to DNG. I agree this would make sense, especially since DNG is a more open format than the various proprietary RAW formats.

One thing we need to consider about this feature: if Shotwell converts all RAW files to DNG at import, does Shotwell keep the RAW file around? If not, then it's possible to lose some information (the conversion will most likely be inexact, i.e. certain metadata, previews, and camera-specific data may be lost). If so, now Shotwell will have three files to maintain: RAW, DNG, and the development.
If it's converting at export only, that's much easier to implement, but obviously less desireable to a user who wants their entire collection in DNG format.
