Rhythmbox does not warn if /apps/rhythmbox/plugins/ipod/active is zero

Description
If you set /apps/rhythmbox/plugins/ipod/active to zero (no, I didn't do this deliberately - something did it for me without asking!), Rhythmbox appears to see attached ipods (it shows them and lists the music files on them) but doesn't let you do anything with them.
On closer inspection (if you click the down arrow over the text IPOD), it says there were import errors, and if you click on the import errors, it shows you a bunch of mime and gstreamer errors (see attached screenshot).
This is quite confusing, and how to fix it is absolutely non-intuitive - I didn't even know there was a setting for the plugin and found it by accident almost a week later.
So it seems that Rhythmbox is clever enough to recognise it's an ipod, but not clever enough to realise that a required plugin is disabled.
I think that in this case Rhythmbox should not show the ipod at all, but instead display a warning that the ipod plugin is disabled and the user cannot use it, along with some information on how to fix it (or perhaps even a means of re-enabling it).
Version: rhythmbox 0.12.5-0ubuntu5 on Ubuntu 9.10
Version: 0.12.x
