UI ideas for the toolbar
The current toolbar has a couple of problems.
- It uses the oldschool icons
- It's placed in a bit of a weird place
- It doesn't quite look like a toolbar
This is an issue to discuss how to improve it.
These mockups don't have symbolic icons because I kind of rushed them, and I don't think we have icons for everything yet. I also applied the "selected" state to the cut button which can't be selected, but it's useful to see how it would look anyways :p
The toolbar would look and behave like the toolbar of Drawing. Buttons would have no frame, and only get a background when selected. For buttons that don't have that state (copy/paste/etc) the background would show while clicking.
Here's a crazier layout. This is more of a FCPX/Apple motion style. The idea is that we can have more buttons and controls over a horizontal bar. Also we can move the zoom control to the bar, and take the time out of the viewer and put it close to the timeline (like Premiere and After Effects). The con is that we lose some vertical space.
If someone wants to play around with these mockups let me know, I can upload the original krita file. It's a mess but editable.
