Improve the Paste Functionality in List View When the Window is Full
Description:
When using the list view in Nautilus, it's currently not possible to paste cut or copied files if the window is already full with files. If a user right-clicks in the window, a file gets selected, and the context menu for that file opens, which does not include the paste option. While CTRL+V works as a workaround, this can be very confusing for beginners and new users.
Steps to Reproduce:
Open Nautilus in list view.
Fill the window with enough files so that there is no empty space.
Cut or copy a file from another location.
Right-click within the window to try and paste the file.
Expected Behavior:
There should be a clear and intuitive way to paste files even when the window is full. This could be achieved by:
Implementing an option in the right-click context menu that appears when right-clicking on an empty space or the scrollbar.
Adding a dedicated "Paste" button in the toolbar.
Providing an option to right-click on the folder name in the breadcrumb navigation to access the paste function.
Actual Behavior:
Right-clicking within the window selects a file and opens the context menu for that file, which does not include the paste option. The only way to paste is by using the keyboard shortcut CTRL+V, which may not be obvious to all users.
Proposed Improvement:
Enhance the user experience by including a paste option in the context menu when right-clicking in the window, regardless of whether a file is selected. Additionally, consider adding a paste button in the toolbar or providing a way to access the paste function via the breadcrumb navigation.
Impact:
This improvement will make Nautilus more user-friendly, especially for beginners and those unfamiliar with keyboard shortcuts, thereby enhancing overall usability.
