Allow transfering directory trees as a single file (.tar)
Use cases
Provide a way to create a tar file from Nautilus, without compression, instead of forcing users to compress files where it is not needed.
Desired behavior
When clicking ‘Compress’ on a directory, the opened dialog should provide a way to create a .tar file, so without compression.
Benefits of the solution
It will provide an easy way for users to create archive files without having to wait for any compression. This is relevant in case the archive is there to reduce the number of manipulated files (ex: packing 100K into one) without necessity to compress it, because it will take too much time (larger than 100Go) and in cases where disk space or bandwidth is not an issue.
Possible drawbacks
- it will be necessary to inform the user about the differences between compression and packing to let him choose the best option. As well as indicated the solution is not portable on other systems (I think, don’t use OSX or Windows btw).
