Nautilus laggy on folder with lots of files
May I ask if some performance issues could be investigated please.
Affected version
- Nightly flatpak: Yes / No / Can't test it because
- Other: GNOME nautilus 3.36.3
In latest Ubuntu LTS
Steps to reproduce
- Open folder containing 10,716 txt and html files.
- Observe it takes 30 seconds or more.
- Try to drag the window, see mouse is now stuck, and Nautilus is locked up.
- see still showing "Loading..."
- Window becomes responsive. Try ctrl + A to select all. Observe it now locks up again for 60 seconds.
- Right click on a file and select properties, see the window locks up again with this popup:
"Creating Properties Window You can stop this operation by clicking cancel [Cancel]"
-
After 10 mins, still no Properties dialog. What is it doing? It's just meant to show the number of files, and the total size in bytes?
-
All windows are locked up, I can't even check nautilis version in another window. CPU load is jammed

etc
377295 jonny 20 0 1470420 382828 52832 R 93.8 2.4 7:28.23 nautilus
- after 10 mins, even clicking away from this folder now takes 10 seconds to get out of it.
Current behavior
Laggy and locked up
Expected behavior
Reasonably responsive, and no locks ups
