Which level of compression is used for 7-Zip?
Hi, I want to compress some files with 7-Zip to save space and I have a question.
- I used the 7z integration of Nautilus to compress a folder and the size of the archive was 105.5 MB.
- In a terminal I used
7z
withLZMA2
and-mx9
for "Ultra" compression on the same folder and the size of the archive was 103.0 MB.
I concluded that Nautilus doesn't use the maximum level of compression. What level does it use and why doesn't it give the choice in the GUI?
In my opinion it would be great if users could choose the compression method (LZMA, LZMA2, PPMd, BZip2) and the compression level (Store, Fastest, Fast, Normal, Maximum, Ultra).
