Name column can be excessively shrinked by location column.
EDIT: Starts from https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=775550
I thought I had reported this issue long ago (maybe on Bugzilla) but can't find it here: the single most annoying remaining issue I have with Nautilus is that the columns shown in the search results in listview mode are constantly jumping around and pretty much never the right size. I have to resize them every time I run a search, because the "Location" column decides to expand and eat all the size, to the detriment of the filename column.
Either Nautilus hits the rare scenario where it can fit all the information on-screen without truncating text in any columns, in which case I guess it's OK to autosize the columns but that makes your complicated for not much gain, OR... Nautilus should stop second-guessing me and just remember the last column widths I had set for every column, both in search results view and in regular listview (independently). 99% of the time I want to read my very long filenames, not the very long path of the subfolders the file is in (it's interesting yes, but the filename is more interesting).
An alternative way to solve the specific issue of the "tug-of-war" between the filename column and the location column, would be to have both combined, by having the location info shown as text on a 2nd line just below the filename. It would allow both to use the full width of the window to display their potentially long text strings, and the location column's text is already grayed out anyway so it doesn't really impair legibility. It would work in everything other than the smallest zoom level.
