Allow setting the destination of compressed archive in special situations
Use cases
Filesystem is getting full. Some big files are wanted to be ie. .tar.xz compressed and archived to another directory in to another filesystem or to an USB stick.
Just trying to add a path name to Archive name does not work now (ie. "/mnt/fat32/tars/var_log.tar.xz").
The Compress (Create Archive) [Files v3.32.1-stable] dialog now complains: "Archive names cannot contain "/".
And support for File Chooser dialog would be even more useful.
Desired behavior
- Allow a filename to have path written in it.
- [Browse]-button to open File Chooser dialog where a directory and an existing or new filename could be chosen.
Benefits of the solution
When filesystem is full, enables to .tar.xz compress whole directories to a FAT32-partition. If just copying the directory there, file attributes are not saved and filenames may not be suitable (as in my current use case filenames have ":"-characters)
Possible drawbacks
Cannot think anything but just adding code.
