Make path bar visible when clicking beside path buttons
Use cases
Currently, to expose the path bar, the user must hit Ctrl+L. Many users do not know that (I used Nautilus for years without realizing it), and getting the path to the directory they currently have open is difficult.
Example use case where this is a problem: A user who has not memorized all the keyboard shortcuts has a folder open and wants to access that folder in a save/open dialog from a program. What do they have to do currently? They must either memorize the path and type it in or get the folder and save dialog next to each other and then type the path in. This is not trivial. Zotero, for instance, stores files in directories that seem to be random alphanumeric strings (e.g. "UDPU9YEB"), and remembering those is quite difficult. Granted, Ctrl+L > Ctrl+C is very quick, but that only matters if the user has the hotkeys memorized.

Desired behavior
Do what Windows Explorer does. Have the path as buttons, but change it into a text path when the user selects the space to the right of the path.
Benefits of the solution
New users will not get frustrated and run away from Linux. The ability to use mouse clicks and touches to get paths will benefit anyone who is not a power keyboard user. I use this feature of Windows Explorer every day when I am using Windows, and it is a feature I miss whenever I am using Ubuntu.
Possible drawbacks
Text paths are ugly.
