Add support for hiding titlebar
Hello team,
I love how flexible mutter is today, and even though it targets end-users, it allows many customizations so that even people who like tiling WM's can adapt their workflow to use it.
One thing that I think we could do better is supporting the ability to hide the titlebars when we want. The way I see is that sometimes the titlebar can be "noisy" or redundant (particularly when maximized). We could do it like on Plasma, by using custom rules or manually clicking on the title and selecting "hide", or in a manner that is more friendly to GNOME users, like a custom property to Gnome settings.
For instance, today, I'm using a custom patch that automatically hides the titlebar when the window is maximized (or tiled). I find it super cool because whenever I have a maximized window, I know what app I'm running, so it saves me some space as well as make it slicker. Here's a sample screenshot in case you want to see it and here's the patch I use. Anyway, I'm not proposing this as it is, it's just a reference.
Is this subject under discussion? Has it ever been? Has there ever been any RFC to this feature? I'd work on it if that's interesting enough for the community.
Thank you!
