Mutter on X11 with Gnome 46, some windows no shadows, not resizable
Affected version
Arch Linux with kernel 6.8.1, Gnome 46, mutter 46.0.
Bug summary
Since upgrading to Gnome 46, on two systems which use X11, mutter
starts but does not initialize correctly. The result of that is unresizable windows and no drop-shadows. I have a laptop that uses Wayland, the issue does not occur there and seems to be specific to X11.
Steps to reproduce
- Login on Gnome 46 X11 session
- Start an
alacrity
orvirt-manager
window
What happened
Windows are not resizable, there are no shadows around the windows.
What did you expect to happen
Like on Gnome 45, I expect the windows to be resizable and show shadows around the corners.
Workaround
When I do pkill -HUP mutter-x11
, mutter
seems to reinitialize itself and immediately shadows
appear on all windows and windows become resizable.
Relevant logs, screenshots, screencasts etc.
(Note that in the video above, you can't see the mouse cursor. To clarify, I can't select any screen-corner of either the alacrity
or the virt-manager
window, before I do the aforementioned workaround. Strangely enough, I can resize things like firefox
and nautilus
)
