Proper focus is not given when a new window is launched from the overview

Affected version

  • Fedora Silverblue 38 Beta (38.20230312.n.0)
  • gnome-shell-44~rc-1
  • Wayland (did not try Xorg)
  • Extensions were disabled

Bug summary

When opening a new app window from the overview, the window focus is not properly given to the new window and the user input still go to the old focused window. Both windows appear to be in focus, however, the old window has the proper focus.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Open an app
  2. Open a new window of that app in the dash (either by middle clicking or using the "New Window" context menu)
  3. Attempt to type something

What happened

The new window was not given proper focus. Inputs are still going to the previous window.

What did you expect to happen

The new window should have received proper focus and the old window should have been unfocused. (This affects every app, not just GNOME Console)
