external monitor disabled upon editing file with vim
Affected version
Ubuntu 21.04 Linux 5.11.0-17-generic mutter 3.38.4 Wayland but not XOrg
Bug summary
This is the strangest bug I've encountered in my 20+ years of linux use. Using an external monitor I am editing a Snakefile with vim and syntax highlighting enabled. Under certain condition the monitor will go to sleep. See the link to the video below.
Steps to reproduce
- download the attachment sleep_bug.tgz and unzip it
- move the colorscheme to
~/.vim/colors/
- open the file with vim
vim -u vimrc Snakefile
- delete the trailing quote, and see the external monitor go into sleep mode
What happened
The monitor goes to sleep when I delete the trailing quote character using vim.
What did you expect to happen
I expect it to keep the monitor activated. I am using a miniDP->DVI adapter and DVI cable. I bought new ones of each and it didn't fix the problem.
