S/PDIF and Line Out audio does not work in GNOME Wayland with the proprietary NVIDIA driver
Affected version
- OS: Fedora 32 Workstation
- Mutter version: 3.36.4
- GNOME version (according to Settings): 3.36.3
- Linux version: 5.7.7
- NVIDIA driver version: 440.100
- GPU: GTX 970
- This only occurs in Wayland
Bug summary
In GNOME running on X.Org with the proprietary NVIDIA driver, I am able to select my S/PDIF optical audio out, Line Out analogue audio out, and DisplayPort audio out. In GNOME Wayland, however, I am only able to select DisplayPort audio out. The other audio outputs do not appear in neither GNOME Settings nor pavucontrol.
Note that I'm not entirely sure whether this is a Mutter issue, however as it differs depending on session type it is my best bet.
Steps to reproduce
- Use an NVIDIA GPU with their proprietary driver
- Start GNOME Wayland
- Attempt to play audio from Line Out or S/PDIF
