Feature request: CLI argument for blank text files (and pipe input)
Thank you for this great piece of software. Mostly I use it for a blank text comparison where I copy and paste in the texts. However, it is a little annoying to always have to do two extra clicks at the start for that.
I propose a special command line argument -
(or perhaps just blank
) which acts as a blank file. So shortcuts like meld -
or meld - -
can be made which automatically starts a blank two-way text comparison. meld - - -
starts a three-way blank text comparison.
Additionally, -
could be used to pre-fill text that takes the cli pipe as an input. So under linux xclip -selection clipboard -o | meld -
would start a two-way text comparison with no files opened, but whatever text is in the clipboard filled in automatically. For clarification: echo test | meld -
, would start the comparison with "test" as text. In linux the -
cli argument is often used to signal pipe input.
