confusing "huge arrows" and "dots which sometimes are where spaces are and sometimes not" without options to disable these features (which names could explain features meaning)

What the hell are these arrows? On some lines they exist on some don't. It's not "\r\n" vs '"\n" issue as I ran dos2unix on both of them. I've never seen them before. They are terribly annoying. Options like "Show whitespaces" do nothing to them. Meld was the best diff tool before these something appeared. Is there a chance to remove this something?annoying_arrrows
