Problem closing notepad pages in some circumstances

Using meld 3.18.0 on Mint 19.2 system, I've experience an unusual problem after trying to close a notepad page with unsaved changes. As expected, a warning dialog pops up and tells me the problem and offers me some options. I choose the "save" option and the changes get saved but the page doesn't close. So I press the close button the page and the page still doesn't close (but no popup dialog).
