Meld crash after comparing files from directory view (due to custom icons and GTK theme)

On my machine meld systemically crash after comparing two files from the directory comparison view.

Here is how it can be reproduced:

  1. From the welcome window, choose Directory comparison
  2. Select two folders and Compare them.

Once the directory comparison view is loaded:

  1. Select a file that is not similar to its counterpart (appears in blue).
  2. Right click and Compare.

Once the comparison is loaded, the application seems to have been left in an unstable state: lot's of actions won't work any-more. Trying to close the file comparison view tab results in a crash.

I can reproduce this with meld 3.18.2 and with Flatpak branch org.gnome.meld/x86_64/stable.
