examples/simple-httpd.c fails to handle directories

The bug was introduced in commit 53a3dd24: a copy/paste mistake replaced a variable name.

Additionally, I added a comment recommeding programmers to provide a descriptive error message. When I tried to run simple-httpd for the first time all I saw was a mysterious blank page in my browser. A good error message (containing the request path) might have led me in the right direction in solving this.
