smbclient library used by gvfs backend does not implement Netbios stuff needed for SMB2/SMB3
Nautilus client requires (the deprecated) "SMB1 support enabled" on Samba server side in order to see/work with Samba shares.
Distro: Ubuntu 20.04 (client) Steps:
-
Launch Nautilus file manager
-
Goto "Other Locations"
-
Enter server address: [SMB://Myhost]
-
Press Connect
4a. Result: Main folder is empty (no Samba share is visible)
4b. Expected Result: Main folder shows available Samba shares from server Myhost
-
The Expected Result in Nautilus will be achieved if the Samba server Myhost is set to "Enable SMB1 support".
-
Issue: SMB1 is deprecated and considered not secure. Why does Nautilus still work only when SMB1 on the server side is switched on? Surely this is a bug.
