Getting rid of backdrop style for unfocused windows?
See #777 (comment 391460). I've had a discussion with @otte on IRC whether the backdrop style for unfocused windows is a good idea or not.
Pro dropping backdrop style.
- faster (restyling all widgets appears to be quite expensive)
- consistency with other toolkits, platforms and desktop environments
- improved legibility when looking at two windows side-by-side
- large portions of the screen changing can be quite irritating
Con dropping backdrop style:
- makes it harder to know which window is active
Some suggestions to achieve the desired effect without backdrop style:
- Only dim title bar
- In gnome-shell, use darker shadows for active window
