X11: Drop-down menus from menu bar don't react to touchscreen taps

Description
On my tablet, menus that drop down from the menubar (in applications e.g. evolution, any of the Libroffice applications, vinagre, etc.) have stopped responding to touchscreen taps on them since (I believe) gtk+ got updated to 3.22.24. This is on an HiDPI display, and while using X11. Tapping on a menu item seems to kind of "select" the text on it, temporarily highlighting the menu item, but it does not get registered as a click. No such issue is seen when using the same menu with a mouse/touchpad. This leaves me with no option but to connect a mouse/touchpad if I ever need to access any of the menu actions.
