Print dialog fails with an IPP-over-USB printer
Steps to reproduce
- Install ipp-usb.
- Plug IPP device into a USB port.
- Open print dialog in Evince, Firefox or Zathura.
- Select the device from the printer list.
Current behavior
- The device selection results in the cursor spinning and the dialog showing
Getting printer-information...
- This lasts for a number of minutes (2+?)
- The printer attributes are obtained and shown in the dialog.
- A dyanamic, temporary queue has been created by CUPS. Shown in the output of
lpstat -a
. - The queue is described as
Rejecting Jobs
- The previous message may not be immediately shown. If so, choose another entry and go back.
- There isn't any PPD generated by CUPS and put in /etc/cups/ppd
- The temporary queue disappears when the dialog is closed.
Expected outcome
The behaviour was expected to be exactly the same as when the device was connected over the network by wireless. That is: the formation of a temporary queue with a generated PPD that can be printed to.
Version information
I am using Debian unstable with libgtk-3-0:i386 3.24.29-1 from experimental.
Additional information
The move to using CUPS' dynamic queue creation is very welcome. Is it a prelude to using the CPDB?
