Feature request: traditional (non-tablet-like) mode, disabling overlay scrollbars, warping scrolling, etc. by default
Currently there are (a least some) tablet features introduced in gtk3 which are dysfunctional for a desktop computer with a large screen.
eg1 - clicking below or above the position indicator in the scroll bar moves to a relative position instead of moving up or down 1 page.
why dysfunctional : ... If a vertical list is very long (maybe thousands of items), it is much more difficult to move down one page. ... If a horizontal line is very long (maybe hundreds of characters), it is much more difficult to scan the line.
eg2 - the disappearing scroll bars
why dysfunctional : ... If an item which can be expanded appears on the last line which will be covered by the horizontal scroll bar, it is impossible to expand the item to see related detail.
Perhaps it would be better stated to say that a tablet mode is needed, and to introduce tablet-oriented features only in this new tablet mode.
Note that because gtk is embedded in other applications, it is not easy to reconfigure when problems arise. Trying to reconfigure gtk by (hundreds of) applications is a coding nightmare.
Also note that the tablet mode should NOT be the default, at least for desktop computers. More work will be done on desktop computers than on tablets (and smartphones).
