Fat32 unreadable in Windows after resize
- In a 16 GiB USB stick,
- I create an MSDOS partition table and a fat32 partition to fill the stick,
- then resize it to (size - 1) MiB,
- and the result is readable in Linux but not in Windows, where I'm prompted to reformat the stick.
The output of file -s /dev/sdf1
seems very wrong after the resize. Before:
# file -s /dev/sdf1
/dev/sdf1: DOS/MBR boot sector, code offset 0x58+2, OEM-ID "mkfs.fat", sectors/cluster 16,
Media descriptor 0xf8, sectors/track 32, heads 64, hidden sectors 2048, sectors 30447616
(volumes > 32 MB), FAT (32 bit), sectors/FAT 14864, serial number 0x7a03dea6, label: "ASDF "
After:
# file -s /dev/sdf1
/dev/sdf1: DOS/MBR boot sector
