Description
First of all, thank you very much for giving us gnumeric.
Its charts are a wonderful way to visualize the growing sea of data we swim in.
The main reason I'm writing is to humbly suggest a way to make exploring big data more interactive.
Please
1.) add fields to the chart wizards that accept a range of cell addresses, and
2.) when the user clicks on a chart, write those coordinates to the specified cells.
Here's why I'm optimistic, or even excited.
Once the coordinates are written to cells, the user can automatically use them to update other cells, tables and charts.
Then it would be much easier to explore big data by simply clicking back and forth between charts.
It seems to me that gnumeric is already aware of chart coordinates because they pop up in a tiny window when the user hovers the mouse's pointer over that spot.
And as jean pointed out in #gnumeric, it already knows when the user clicks the mouse, because that's how charts are selected.
Maybe this code could be reused to make gnumeric's charts more interactive and even better for exploring big data.
Thanks, Kingsley
