XYZ plot not clipped

Description
Created attachment 296426 XYZ plot data not clipped
Recipe: See attached screenshot, xyz-plot-not-clipped.png On the left plot, things are OK. Note that there are a couple of slightly darker bands, one just above Y=3 and one just above Y=6.
Now consider the right plot. This is a copy of the left plot, with only one change: the Y-axis max has been set to 6 instead of 8. Note that the plotted data extends well beyond the Y axis.
Expected behavior: In analogy with regular old XY plots, I would expect the data to be clipped to the boundaries of the plotting box. The data above Y=6 should not appear. In particular, the Y=6 dark band and everything above that should not appear.
The spreadsheet I used to produce this is also attached.
