unhide --background option so it shows up with --help
I'm not sure why the --background
option is hidden or, for that matter, any others. I wasted an hour or so today trying to figure out how I might get a Gnote process to stay open (see #117 (closed) for details). T
he very first thing I did was look at the options shown with gnome --help
. Since I didn't see anything relevant, I moved on and, through experimentation with dbus, found the --search-service
option and then looking at the source code, found the --background
option.
Granted, it is documented in the manpage, but I didn't think about looking there until much later. I didn't even consider an app might have a "hidden" option, so assumed what --help
showed me was authoritative. I'm not sure what the advantage of keeping it hidden is and can only see advantages to unhiding all options.
