Extra large files cause performance, memory and storage problems
I'm on Debian 12 bookworm, GNOME Text Editor 43.1, and today this happened:
- Opening an extremely large file (for example the anaconda .sh installer,
~700MB
of text) causes the program to go unresponsive and hammer the cpu. This was somewhat expected with this outrageous file. - After around 1m of waiting I noticed the memory climbing, and when it reached
~4GB
I stopped it, as it probably was a leak. I repeated this process a couple of times to confirm the bug. - Later I noticed that
~/.local/share/org.gnome.TextEditor/drafts/
had become~4GB
in size and it was full of.goutputstream-YYYYY
files, around~500MB
each.
I know this is an "ordering -1 beers" type of scenario, but I think it deserves a fix nonetheless, especially the storage part. Let me know what I can do to further document this or provide additional info.
