Mnemonics only work if menubar is visible, and it's always hidden in new windows
Even if the "Enable mnemonics (such as Alt+F to open the File menu)" setting is ✓ checked in General Preferences, those keyboard combinations are only accepted when the menubar is visible. In a terminal window with a hidden menubar, hitting Alt+F, Alt+V, etc. has no effect.
It would be extremely helpful if they were always recognized (assuming that preference is set), and could be used to both reveal and access a hidden menubar.
Particularly due to the related issue that the menubar seemingly cannot be made permanently visible. Even if I right-click in the window and choose "Show menubar", or manage to remember the direct shortcut (Shift+F1) to toggle its visibility, the next time I launch gnome-terminal
(or even just open a new window in the current session), the new window opens with its menubar once again hidden.
