The -- option is not a full replacement for the deprecated -e option (pre-opening different ssh sessions in tabs)

Description
When I use the -e option in gnome-terminal 3.24 on Fedora 26, I get this warning message:
===== Option “-e” is deprecated and might be removed in a later version of gnome-terminal. Use “-- ” to terminate the options and put the command line to execute after it.
The problem with this is that the "--" option won't work for a particular type of scenario:
gnome-terminal --tab -e "ssh host1" --tab -e "ssh host2"
I want to be able to pre-open multiple tabs with ssh sessions to a different host in each tab. Is it possible to still do this with non-deprecated options? If not, can this be fixed before deprecating the -e option?
Version: 3.24.x
