CPU usage of gnome-system-monitor impacts performance
I have recently been benchmarking a number of applications (mainly CPU-intense BLAS computations). The machine I am running has 24 cores, out of which only 12 are used by my BLAS library. Despite not showing up with a huge percentage on htop (or gnome-system-monitor, for that matter), my results show an approximate increase in runtime of almost 20-30%, when running gnome-system-monitor on the side.
So far, I was only able to locate the following (quite old) issue https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-system-monitor/+bug/93847 which is supposed to be fixed by now. Also, as i mentioned, it does not list such a high CPU consumption in any monitoring apps.
I am happy to provide a more detailed overview of what I am doing, if this is something that seems to happen to other people, too. Running on ubuntu 16.04.
