Option to disable network connections in the background
In Kali, we would like our desktop to not make any network request except when it's a logical consequence of a user's action.
gnome-software is auto-started in any new user session and it does plenty of network requests in the background either directly or through its plugins (metadata refresh, fwupd, extensions.gnome.org, odrs.gnome.org). We tried to disable those with the following gsettings:
[org.gnome.software]
download-updates=false
download-updates-notify=false
But despite those settings, gnome-software is still calling packagekit to update the metadata, etc.
Would it be possible to fix this or have some new option that would tell gnome-software to only do all those requests when the user started gnome-software in an interactive way?
FWIW, we are discussing this in this Kali ticket: https://bugs.kali.org/view.php?id=5236
