Description
Yesterday I tried to install a .flatpakref file on Ubuntu. It failed, because Software's flatpak plugin wasn't installed. Software showed the following error message:
"Don't know how to handle 'file://tmp/mozilla_aday0/org.audacityteam.Audacity.flatpakref'"
There are various things that are wrong with this error message:
- The language is oddly informal, and takes a kind of anthropomorphized first person view
- There's a complicated path that most people won't understand is referencing the file that they've tried to install
- There's no clear statement what the issue is
- There's no hint about how to resolve the issue
A better error message could read: "Unable to install Audacity - this type of application is not supported."
An even better message would allow the flatpak plugin to be installed:
"Additional plugin required to install Audacity [ Install ]"
