Have a way to tell with a glance if an app comes from a Flatpak repository or from the distro's repositories
System info: Arch Linux 64-bits
- gnome-software 3.28.2-1
- gnome-software-packagekit-plugin 3.28.2-1
- flatpak 0.99.2-1
So, one thing I kinda wanted is a way to differentiate from which source the apps comes.
I really have been preferring flatpaks over distro packages recently, the main reason being the delta updates.
But, unfortunately sometimes one app appears twice on a search or on the main page: I know one is the flatpak version and the other is the distro version, but I can only know which is which by clicking and checking
On this picture the left "Builder" is from fltapak, the right one is the distro version.
Here is what I personally think would be a reasonable to good way of solving:
- For flatpaks: Add a small icon of the official flatpak logo overlaid (lower-right corner position) on the app icon.
- For distro apps: Optionally a icon that could indicate "system" (maybe a cogwheel?) or a icon with the user's distro logo, also overlaid at the lower-right corner.
Also, changing the search screen to include the logos:
There would be no need to put the flatpak icon overlaid on the image since you already have the Source url. Still, would be nice to have the icon with colors to the left of the source URL, so it can catch the user's attention.
Of course, these issues make me prefer using the command line instead of Gnome Software, so it would be nice to have them solved.
