Gnome software/pkcon offline updates broken. Cannot create file 'prepared-update'.
Issue
Gnome software offline updates is broken. 'prepared-update' is never created and but still the GUI presents the option to 'Restart & Update'.
Of course this doesn't succeed and the device restarts without applying updates.
The catch is that gnome-software shows the correct updates. Also, pkcon update
shows all the updates and is also capable of applying them but pkcon --only-download update
fails with the message There are no updates available at this time.
General info
- OS - Arch Linux
- pkcon version - 1.2.4
- Gnome shell version - 40.4
- filesystem type - BTRFS without snapshots (if that may help with something :p)
Troubleshooting steps taken:
-
pkcon refresh
andpkcon refresh force
- no effect - reinstalling packagekit and gnome-software - no effect
- reinstalling the entire OS - no effect
-
pkcon --only-download update
- fails withThere are no updates available at this time.
- clearing PackageKit cache manually by removing
/var/cache/PackageKit/alpm
-
pkcon repair
- fails withFatal error: RepairSystem not supported by backend
Any help would be appreciated! I'd happily help debug this problem myself :)
