Improve presentation of OS upgrade banners
The current banner doesn't look very good:
Over in #1225 (closed) there's been discussion about fetching release-specific banners, but whatever happens there, we ought to improve the layout of the banner and the default presentation. The latest mockups look something like this:
Specific changes required here would be:
- Remove the "Now" from "Now Available"
- Larger heavier text for the headline. The mockups have 22pt with ultra-bold weight
- Standard text size for the "Upgrade for the latest features" text
- Spacing:
- Reduce the height of the banner
- Reduce the space between the heading and the description (reference: the current UI is 30px space, in the mockups it's 16px
- Reduce the width of the description, and have it wrap to two lines
- Move the download button to the centre
- Change the "learn more" button into a link in the description
- Segment the banner into two, with the top portion including the graphics and the bottom the controls
If there's too much to do here we could aim to just do part of it to begin with.
The other thing to decide is what the default background should look like. Personally I think that a grey gradient could be pretty good:
It grabs a bit of attention but is also neutral, which makes sense for a default. If a gradient is tricky we could talk about alternatives, though.
