Never-ending "checking" spinner while updating Flatpaks
For #1276 (closed) it was suggested that I try and get a backtrace. However, while attempting to reproduce the issue, I encountered a different one.
What happened:
- I was running software from gdb and had a small set of Flatpak updates listed
- I clicked Update All for the Flatpaks
- The buttons for the flatpak items showed progress, with a bouncing progress bar
- After a short while the update view blanked and the "checking" spinner was shown in the header bar
- After more time, the updates view returned, to show the list. This repeated at least once more, with the updates page disappearing and then reappearing.
- But then it never returned to the state with the updates view having content. For around 20 minutes, the page was blank, with the "checking" spinner continuing to spin in the header bar. During this time the Software app continued to be responsive and I could open other views and so on.
This was with version 40.2 on Fedora 34. I'm attaching as much of the --verbose logs that were available in the terminal at the end of all this:
There's are two main issues here:
- The fact that the process took so long, or had stalled (impossible to tell which)
- The behaviour of the updates view periodically blanking, and then being restored
