after day(s) uptime, login screen misbehaves badly
hello
this failure occurs in new and strange ways. reboot fixes issue. 18.10 ubuntu gnome software updater says latest version. i have external monitor via hdmi out, sometimes just external monitor is on sometimes it is on with built in monitor also. this might be non-issue, it seems to happen with touch interface too. my power button is programmed to suspend. auto-suspend after 30 mins but this doesn't seem to work (ill make a new issue for that once i verify). built-in keyboard will not wake laptop. external keyboard will! reference to button press are on external keyboard.
symptoms: after awhile (uptime and suspend) login page will expose taskbar while entering credentials. if you wake system using space bar it will also show you the desktop! it will freeze and flicker screen when you try to click on any of this and you can recover proper login screen by toggling hardware sleep button (taskbar will be visible so not actually proper). you can also-re-suspend using upper right hand arrow dropdown but it is flickering entire time.
steps to repro: keep your computer on for several days, suspending when not in use. eventually you will see taskbar exposed inexplicably. when this happens, try waking system with spacebar. it will show desktop. it will be inoperative and you must restore login screen by toggling hw suspend button. if you wake system with enter key you will be able to enter password. restart makes proper solid color login with no taskbar visible. my computer is currently in this state and i can reproduce the "wake with spacebar shows desktop" consistently now that it is in this bad state. i will next count how many wakes it takes from fresh restart and update here. this problem manifests over a day or so.
one time this happened the taskbar was also improperly magnifying. i dont have any magnification effects on but it was doing it and stopped after restart.
i didn't notice any similar posts going back a couple of pages. others report different login troubles.
