Random high CPU usage
System Info:
Gnome-shell 3.30.0+25+g179cd0a3c-1
Linux-Kernel 4.18.7.arch1-1
Xorg-server 1.20.1-1
I am having trouble figuring out how to even begin troubleshooting this seemingly random issue, so I wont be able to provide any real useful information.
Problem:
Gnome-shell CPU usage will occasionally spike to 100% and remain there indefinitely or until I restart the shell. Happens during idle or load.
The little I do know:
-
Since updating the entire GNOME 'group' to 3.30 the above problem began. When I was previously testing just gnome-shell & mutter 3.30 I did not see this issue.
-
It occurs multiple times a day, at random intervals.
-
Top shows gnome-shell using '100%', though its using roughly 30% of the entire cpu.
-
Nothing in dmesg or the journal looks suspicious, to me...
-
I tried disabling all extensions to rule that out. Issue persists.
I read through this to try and get a handle on debugging gnome-shell, but the shell is not actually crashing so I do not know how helpful a trace would be?
